Safety at work

- Caution:

- Caution is the first thing to be emphasised. Just as driving a motor vehicle, operating a machine requires constant attention, which must be maintained at all times. As we get used to something, our confidence increases about the specific object and we start to feel that we are able to control it. When this happens, we tend to make the mistake of disregarding safety requirements. NEVER make this mistake! In the majority of cases, accidents occur when work is performed carelessly and negligently without proper caution.

- Protective gear:
Steel reinforced boots and leather gloves are compulsory.

- Supervision:
It is recommended that you to operate with a fellow worker in any case: another person should be present to supervise and assist the work.

- Emergency switch:
If there is any trouble, this device will help you to stop it. It is a compulsory component on every machine!

- Device to prevent slewing:

When splitting meters of wood or logs, the machine must be equipped with a device to prevent slewing. In each case, the anti-slewing device must be stronger than the torque delivered by the driving mechanism, i.e. the device must not buckle under the force delivered by the motor.

- Maximum revolution:

Maximum revolution must be reduced to 400 rpm. Revolutions exceeding this value will make the machine uncontrollable and hazardous, and also prevent optimal splitting.

- Reversing switch:

The reversing switch must be used with caution. If the machine is stuck or stalls, it is preferable to manually rotate the cone backwards. A sudden reversal of direction can cause the cone to throw off the wood, because when rotating in reverse direction, the cone will push the wood away from itself instead of pulling the wood.

- Do not use the cone for small wood:

If you want to split small wood or kindling to even smaller pieces, we cannot recommend the splitting cone as a proper choice, because small wood cannot stand on its “feet” as a log with an almost circular cross-section. There is nothing to prevent small wood from slewing, and therefore it is unsafe for splitting.

- Cone tip height of the table:

Maximum 8-10 cm

- Safety cover:

It is compulsory to install a cover around the V-belt pulleys.

- Keep away from children:

Never allow children to be in the proximity of machines like this and similar machines posing danger.

If you want to construct a machine, only do so at your own risk, possessing the required expertise! Makeshift machines may become hazardous to use.
